Kentucky State Capitol

SSRG brings unparalleled expertise in masonry, concrete, and historic preservation to the biggest renovation in this landmark building’s history.

Originally constructed in 1904, Kentucky’s State Capitol building in Frankfort was in dire need of restoration. As part of the building’s first major renovation project in more than 70 years, SSRG is leading repairs to the exterior dome as well as interior and exterior concrete and masonry restoration, a massive undertaking set to be completed in 2029.

Our scope of work includes:

  • Repairing, painting and waterproofing the concrete dome, requiring a 15-level scaffolding system
  • Stone patching and replacement across the building’s exterior limestone surface
  • Concrete roof repairs
  • Renovating 200 historic windows
  • Repairing and restoring interior masonry lintels
  • Replacing a stone balustrade railing
