Downtown Memphis Parking Garages

SSRG completed concurrent restorations of three popular parking garages in downtown Memphis while maximizing occupancy and minimizing disruptions.

As trusted experts in concrete repair, restoration and strengthening, SSRG was tasked with restoring three aging parking garage structures for the city of Memphis. Each garage differed both in size and original construction, as well as in the repairs and restoration it required. To ensure these public parking garages remained fully operational during construction, the project was completed in two separate phases.

The various scopes included:

  • Comprehensive concrete spall repairs to the deck, ceiling, vertical columns and support beams
  • Installation of seismic expansion joints to address major deflection
  • Expansion joint replacement
  • Installation of deck-mounted concrete bollards to upgrade the existing traffic retaining system
  • Application of waterproofing sealants
  • Post-tension repairs
  • Carbon fiber strengthening

Meticulous project management minimized disruptions for the city

The three garages SSRG restored are popular parking destinations for visitors to downtown Memphis. The Peabody Garage, which supports public parking for both the historic Peabody Hotel and culturally significant Beale Street, as well as the garage adjacent to the Criminal Justice Center, in particular are highly trafficked year round. Ensuring maximum occupancy throughout the renovation process was a top priority for the city. We were able to keep the garages fully operational and minimize traffic disruptions through ongoing communication, proactive collaboration, and efficient project management, leading to a successful project and a satisfied client.
