Urban County Government Building Facade Improvements

SSRG performed extensive repairs to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Building facade, as well as overseeing masonry repairs and stone patching in addition to other scope needed to revitalize this early 20th century structure.

The building originally opened as a hotel in 1920 and received attention for its extravagance and modernity. The hotel closed in 1963, then reopened as the center of Kentucky government in 1984. It has a dramatic brick facade with carved stone ornamentation, as well as concrete features.

The problem

With the building reaching 100 years of age, the facade required restoration. Weather over the years had caused deterioration in the concrete and in the masonry.

The fix

The SSRG team itself performed a large amount of scope, including:

  • Overhead concrete patching in basement
  • Storefront removal
  • New storefront foundation
  • Balcony Removals
  • Fire escape removal

SSRG also supervised the completion of additional scope, including:

  • Storefront install
  • Storefront lighting install
  • Stone Patching & cleaning
  • Limestone pieces remove & replace
  • Brick cleaning & infill
  • Roofing PMMA install & patching
