Exterior of old structure in Price HillThe neighborhood of Price Hill is seeing a drastic increase of investment and development, and SSRG is playing a critical role in preparing structures for their next chapter.

SSRG has been working with Hamilton County Land Bank, community partner Price Hill Will, BLOC Ministries,  and more, in order to strategically improve buildings in the area. Each property brings its own unique set of challenges and circumstances, but our teams of innovative preservationists thrive in these situations. The buildings have been mixed-use, residential, commercial, and old historic homes. All have required historic stabilization, which means roofing, framing, new or repaired stairs, and comprehensive cleaning to the properties.

There are always exciting discoveries, too. For example, while stabilizing the framing of a structure on W 8th St, Senior Project Manager Walter Weed noticed that one of the old beams had a brand stamped on it. The building was from 1900, and the branding is of J.B.Doppes Sons Lumber Company, a prominent Cincinnati lumber company—a company SSRG purchases lumber from to this very day. Doppes Son brand on nearly 100-year-old wooden beam

SSRG and the HGC Group of Companies are committed to sustainability. As SSRG updates the framing on these structures, the team salvages as much of the lumber as possible. Some are reserved for future projects, but much of it is donated to local reuse projects, including The Reuse Center and BLOC Industries. In the words of BLOC Industries Woodshop Manager, John Ellis, “Old wood like this is a labor of love, it takes a long time to make it usable but I think it is so worth it when it is done.  I am positive we will get some really nice re-claimed table tops from it.”
