Two men talking in hardhatsAt SSRG, we build together, and we build each other. We are a relationship-driven company, and we believe in investing in our most valuable asset—our people. The third class of Leadership Academy is currently underway, empowering employees at all levels to gain the leadership skills necessary to advance their careers. We recently kicked off an inaugural Leadership Challenge. The Leadership Challenge is a monthly company-wide challenge to identify, acknowledge and share great examples of leadership seen in colleagues every day. So often, people don’t know how their own influence until it is celebrated by others, and this is an opportunity to thank those who are leading every day, through actions big and small.

10 Leadership Commitments

Nominations are collected on a rolling basis and nominated by their peers, and one person is selected by a panel of HR professionals to be recognized at our monthly Staph meeting. The July honoree was a longtime part of the SSRG team.

Danny Smyth, Superintendent and SSRG Leader

Portrait of Danny SmythDanny Smyth has been with SSRG and HGC Group of Companies for nearly 35 years. He is a superintendent and has been a critical part of strengthening and reinforcement projects including North Hamilton Water Treatment Plant, KAO, and Prince of Peace. He recently worked on helical piles in Washington Park, and he receives high praise from team members for the experience he creates on job sites.

“Listens to what the field guys have to say, and gives them a voice in our meetings. He is able to read a problem or an issue with a project, and able to come up with a solution. Dan always looks for a way to change a process in the field and make it better. He allows others a chance to lead projects, and take ownership.”

SSRG believes in doing great work with like-minded people. We are grateful for everyday leaders like Dan—they make SSRG who it is
